UP leads PH unis in latest QS World University Rankings – University of the Philippines

The latest rankings show UP at its highest spot in the WUR

The University of the Philippines (UP) leads the country’s higher education institutions in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2025. UP secured the 336th spot worldwide, a significant improvement over its 404th spot in the previous year’s rankings.

Rising out of the challenging times during the COVID-19 pandemic, this latest round of rankings indicate an upward trend for the university. In the 2020 rankings, which were released in 2019, UP’s ranking fell from 356th to 396th. The downward trend continued until the 2023 rankings, which were released in 2022, where UP landed at the 412th spot, its lowest since 2012.

In terms of ratings for the QS WUR 2025, UP’s highest score was in Sustainability, where it obtained 67.7 out of 100. This indicates the university’s commitment to sustainable practices, particularly in its impact on the environment, society, and governance. 

The national university rated 65.6 out of 100 in Employment Outcomes, which indicates the high employability of its graduates. It also rated 65.3 out of 100 in Employer Reputation, illustrating the high degree of appreciation of employers of university alumni working in their institutions.

UP was also rated highly in its network with international research institutions, earning 60.9 out of 100. The university’ academic reputation was also rated at 36.3 out of 100. Overall, the national university had a rating of 33.3 out of 100.

Aside from UP, several other Philippine universities also landed in the 2025 rankings, namely: Ateneo de Manila University at 516th; De La Salle University in the 641-650 range; the University of Santo Tomas in the 851-900 range; and the University of San Carlos in the 1401+ range.

UP’s rank in this latest round establishes the national university’s commitment to its mandate under its charter, Republic Act 9500, to enact leadership in education, research, and public service.
